There was much excitement in Las Palmas yesterday as the very first Canine Carnival Contest took place in Parque Santa Catalina. Twenty-two pooches took part in the contest, dressing in their best costumes and proudly parading the stage with their humans, some a little scared of the attention and others on their best behaviour. There were 4 prizes in total:
Behaviour - Originality - Comical - Special Mention
The special mention was added as a 4th prize, as one of the dogs had no use of it's back legs due to a disease and uses a doggy wheelchair to get around. The judges felt it deserved a special mention award.
Hello Kitty Chihuahua
Cloud Queen Chihuahua
At the end of the judging, all audience members who had brought their dogs in costume were invited onto the stage for a group photograph. Everybody had a great time and it's great to get our fellow furry friends involved in the fun. Maybe next year I will take my dog....
