Update: 3rd October
It seems like overnight there has been a lot of progress on the Mercadona site. The Mercadona signs are now up and the metal walls have been taken down. You can now see into the supermarket, all the shelves are in place ready to fill. Checkout areas are installed and they are putting the last finishing touches to the carpark area.
I was informed by a staff member in the Meloneras branch who is going to transfer to Puerto Rico that the opening day is going to be 20th October.
Update: 24th August
Puerto Rico’s new Mercadona supermarket is really coming along. There is electric installed as I’ve seen strip lighting on when driving past. The facade has had a few coats of white paint and construction workers have been non stop. It wouldn’t surprise me if the sign goes up soon.
Update: 23rd January
We will keep you updated on when this new branch opens, but as of 23rd January, this is what it looks like. There are machines in place digging out the foundations for the building and the site has been active nearly every day.
This is great news for residents and will be the first Mercadona in the municipal of Mogán. The nearest one is currently in El Tablero, then further on, one in San Fernando de Maspalomas and the newest store at Meloneras.
Mercadona are well known on the island for their low prices and quality own branded products. This new opening will generate some much needed jobs for the area too.
It looks like Hiperdino are going to have some competition after they announced they will also open a store in the area once the new Puerto Rico Shopping Center opens in the old waterpark area.
